Capter 5 Questions. I HOT N

1) Bill Gillespie was suddenly nice to Virgil because he realised that he could help him by either capturing the murderer and making him look like the hero or failing and taking the blame for him. Bill realises this when he gets a call from the mayor Frank Schubert and gets yelled at for kicking Tibbs out of his station.

2) When Gillespie has an outburst and kicks Tibbs out Tibbs shows the following characteristics, He is polite because even after Gillespie yelled at him for no good reason he still thanks him and says good morning. He also shows that he is patient because he just listened to bill Gillespie yell at him and then did what he was told.

3) Frank Schubert is the mayor of Wells who owns a hardware store 2 gas stations and a small committee of people who run the cities affairs. He calls Bill Gillespie for an update on how the investigation is going and that's when he realises that he got rid of Tibbs. That's when he explains to Bill that Tibbs could help him solve the case or take the fall if he fails.

4) A: Bill Gillespie was relived that Tibbs didn't smell because before meeting him he was already prejudice towards black people because he thought they all smelt really bad.
B: When Tibbs told Gillespie that if his captain told him to go to England he would hunt down jack the ripper he was saying that he would do anything his captain told him to
C: Tibbs knows there plan to let him take the down fall for them so he calls himself there fall guy because hes the one taking the fall if things go bad.
D:He says he doesn't want to be conspicuous (meaning obvious) because he doesn't want the people hes questioning to be intimidate by the fact that hes in uniform and hes armed.
E: He says That there in California because bill Gillespie's wants to know where his boss is and how a black man is able to be here with so much education and wealth.

5) Mrs Endicott is one of the very few people in Wells that isn't very racist and actually shakes his hand like an equal by not being rude to him and by shaking his hand. she has allot of power so she might be able to influence the people of Wells into liking black people.

6) Eric Kaufmann was at his hotel shaving at the time of the murder so he could not have murdered mantolli. Mantolli was murdered at around 4 and he went tio bed at 2:30 if his story is true.

7) Unlike how Sam usually acts, this encounter with Duena was ver relaxed. He didn't act as much like a cop as usual he just wanted to comfort her the best he could. Duena makes the impression on sam that she is very quiet and depressed so Sam wants to try to make here feel better. This encounter shows that Duena is unselfish because she doesn't worry about how hard her life will become she is sad because her fathers dreams were crushed not hers.

8) This chapter adds a few new suspects to the plot such as Eric and some new bystanders like Duena. It also gives us a bit more information on Montolli when Duena explains why he was in Wells and what he wanted to do. A subplot was added between Tibbs and Gillespie. Bill Gillespie thinks he can fool Tibbs into making him look good so he gets him back but Tibbs is smarter and already knows whats going on.

My Reality T.V. Show

Me and Devon have figured out a plan for our reality T.V. Show project and since I'm writing this a little bit late because of my absents from school on Friday the ideas are pretty established. The name we came up with for the show is Best The Rest: Outdoors Edition. We liked the name because it sounded competitive and it rhymed. Our show is a game show where 2 families of 5 compete in series of outdoor related challenges to win a huge prize package of outdoor equipment. We would like our show to either air oh OLN or the History channel. Both those networks feature outdoor shows like Man Tracker and Swamp People so we think most people who enjoy those channels enjoy outdoor related shows and that's exactly what Best The Rest is. We wanted the show to be on sometime between 5 and 6 o'clock pm. We chose this time because that is the time most adults are done work and start working on supper and house work. Our target is to get those people to watch Best The Rest while working on house work because its not a show with a complex story so its not necessary to have all your attention fully on your screen. Our target audience is those people because we think it is a perfect time for them to watch T.V. at the same time as their completing house work.

Text-Media Compared

I recently started a new book called the Lord of the Rings volume 1 and its off to a very slow start. I guess it will work just like a movie where you kind of have to sit through the boring introduction but everything picks up after the initial action. By the way I haven't seen the movie so please no one spoil it and my opinions might be a little different that someone who saw the movie or read the book in full. With that said, Gandalf reminds me of Dumbledore from the Hairy Potter series. Their both wizards obviously and they both have a stealthy way of getting what they want from people. I would like to watch the movie because I'd like a visual representation from the author on what hobbits look like compared the humans. I think the remind me of hairy trolls. Whats keeping me most engaged right now is what the ring could possibly do. The ring reminds me of horocroxs from Harry Potter because they 're all so mysterious and you want to know what powers they hide. I cant wait to see what the ring is capable of.

How can Google docs help you

I hadn't heard about Google docs before this year and I hadn't used it either but its a very useful tool that saves allot of time. Google docs lets you and a group of people work on a document or presentation in real time from the comfort of your own home. It can help you allot when you and a group of people are working on the same electronic project but cannot get together. It works better than e-mailing because you only have one copy to look at rather that a bunch of random ones. This can also give you less stress and save time because you don't always need to worry about finding a day where you can all get together in one place to work on the same piece of work. Google docs also lets you communicate in real time which is more than can be said about emailing. Google docs also keeps you more organised not only by only having to worry about having one copy but also by being on the Internet you can e-mail it or print it out with little to no effort. Google docs is convenient because you can access it on any device that has access to the Internet like a tablet or a smart phone so there is no excuse anymore for not being able to connect with people.

Favourite scene

My favourite scene so far in the book A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is the scene where Ishmael is pushed onto the battlefield for the first time ever and he doesn't know what to do. He then kills a man rushing him and his vision goes blurry and all he sees is his dying friends.(Beah 117-119) This is a very powerful scene because the mood is so tense we'll he waits to ambush the rebels and then when he does the pay off is sadness because all of his friends that we came to love in the book where dieing at his feet and Ishmael didn't know what he should do. The mood was also scared because Ishmael did not know what to do in this situation because he hadn't experienced it before so it makes you more anxious but at the same time nervous to see how he might handle the situation he is unwillingly put in. This scene is my favourite because it makes you so nervous to see what happens next because you are in the same state of mind as Ishmael "what is going on?" "what do i do?" and it makes you feel like you are right there on the battlefield with Ishmael and the army. I thought that scene was also the most important scene in the book because later on you begin to see how he started by fainting if he killed a man and then he is able to kill with absolutely no thought what so ever it makes you feel sorry for him because he didn't ask for it and he didn't want it but he was forced to do it and it messed up his way of thinking forever.

The Authors style of writing

This Authors writing, when 3rd person is very complex and detailed. The authors sentences are very lengthy and detailed and often describe emotions meaning the author is also omniscient. When the story is told from a 1st person perspective however it is very simple and casual because Ishmael is very care free usually when he talks with his friends. The novel is written in a problem and solution format letting in allot of high action scenes. Ishmael is often captured or giving a tough situation and he has to solve it. An example would be when he finds himself lone in the middle of the forest at the brink of starvation and he finds this mysterious fruit he has never seen before.(Beah 51) He has to figure out if he'd rather starve or risk getting poisoned. The solution is he eats the fruit and it turns out to be safe to eat. The author made the choice to have such a complex style of writing to make the book more intense by using descriptive imagery. If the author  said "he saw someone die so he was sad" it wouldn't be as intense as if he said "As Ishmael watched the Innocent man die he felt a piece of his heart separate from the rest of his body as if he himself felt the same pain". the authors choice to writ the story in this style made me actually feel as if i was a part of the struggle Ishmael was going through which made this book allot more interesting for me because I couldn't wait to see what would happen to Ishmael  next.

Favorite Quote

"When I'm alone in m room sometimes I stare at the wall and in the back of my mind I hear my conscience call" (Beah, 68) This quote refers to the lyrics in a rap song in the book A Long Way Gone however they are very  powerful to the events currently going on in the book. The quote states that sometimes when you have an important decision to make you need to stop and think about what you are trying to accomplish. This links with a long way gone because half of the struggle the children are going through mental because they are constantly running for their lives and have next to no time to just collect their thoughts and think about their next steps. The main character was just destroyed mentally after arriving at the village that had their family in it to late and he will never forgive himself. He stopped to help a man with his harvesting even though he thought he should check on his family but he didn't stop to think and he arrived to late. I was drawn to this quote after I read the part where ishmael losses his family because i was thinking about how Ishmael should h`ave ran to see them faster and i was trying to figure out why he did not but this quote really helped make it clear for me and gave me a greater understanding of the story and the message within it.

Setting

In Sierra Leon Africa there is a massive struggle with rebels going from town to town killing everyone in a attempt to "free" the legion. The book doesn't say what time period it is in however the book is based on the 30 year old authors childhood so you can assume it takes place in the 90s. More proof would be that the book has modern weapons like the AK47 and the people there drive trucks. What the rebels do is they go to towns and kill a lost everyone their but any men or children they find hiding after the matter they take and put on drugs making them more courageous and therefore more useful soldiers. If anyone resists they are commanded to be shot down by the people who do cooperate. As for the women they re violated and held hostage to help discourage any heroic behaviour by the military. This book reminds me of the movie black hawk down because the rebels behaved in the same way, executing people, holding hostages that sort of thing. They also fought without mercy and were very willing to sacrifice there lives if it benefits there group at all. If i were the main character in this book i would be absolutely terrified being surrounded by dead bodies and constantly having people after me. I also would hate how hot it is because it slows you down and weakens you for the next attack.

Protagonist

Ishmael was care free boy in Africa with one brother, who went to school, a mother and father, who home schooled him and many friends. Every night they would play rap cassettes and sing along to them pretending to be the people that wrote them. One day he left the village to see his grandma and when he got back he knew his world would never be the same. His whole village had been attacked by rebels and his parents had been slaughtered. Him and his grow of friends flee to different parts of the region fighting for their lives one day at a time.Ishmael is the quietest out of anyone and only talks if its very important. He demonstrates selflessness as well  going back to save captured friends and offering a share of food to fellow wanderers. He is strong and pushes himself on even though the road ahead is nothing to look forward to but he never gives up. Physically he is very skinny and gets more so as his adventure goes on and he battles starvation and dehydration. He is physically fit however because he is able to outrun rebels effortlessly and he can run for hours or sometimes for a full day and not stop despite all of the troubles he faces. along his journey each place he stops the rebels always seem to be right behind him. i think all Ishmael wants is to find a safe place to live its just he doesn't know where that is yet.

Plot Summary

A Long Way Gone is about a 12 year old boy in Sierra Leone, Africa who is thrown into a war when rebels start attacking villages, killing everyone living their or forcing them into becoming rebels, so they can "free" the region. Ishmael is thrown into this when his home village is attacked unexpectedly one night and he loses track of all his family and friends. Along the way he faces impossible obstacles and slowly reunites with his friends only to watch them suffer along with him. He gets captured multiple times and the rebels never show mercy. He has to fight against hunger, pain and loneliness on top of the rebels and the region will never be the same because no one trusts them and often they attack on first sight. However along the there are a few generous soles that save their lives. My favourite part so far is when it was one of the hottest days of the year and they had to walk on sand all day and they escaped with cuts on their feet that slowed their progress drastically. This book never stops being interesting because it seems everything Ishmael does is a struggle for his life so it always keeps you on our toes as to what he is going to do next. He often eats random things fro the wild and that will affect his body in many ways and could kill him.

ALL ABOUT ME

Hello, Im Kade Cote im 5'11 and I love football. I really hate the term YOLO because its pointless and obvious. I have never really read a very long book and all my life ive been more of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid type reader. I will admit i tend to drop books if the action doesnt start quick and that why Diary of a Wimpy Kid works so well for me. My favorite book of all time is called Nerds, its a pretty short kiddie book but its about kids that are given wierd powers that fight off crime and stuff. I hope you enjoy my blog and find my posts entertaining.
